alter (2021)

I often think about the life of my clothing after I no longer have use for it. My already worn clothes, acquired from a thrift or second hand store, eventually succumb to holes and tears. I keep them still, hoping to mend them or use the fabric to mend something else. They sit and wait until they become clutter, but I physically cannot put this usable material in the trash. Alter gives permission to play and explore the afterlife of my clothing. To stretch beyond the practical and resourceful. In this work, salvaged garments are deconstructed and become a substrate for letterpress printing; exploring text as image, clothing as canvas, and the act of altering.
